Iconic Washington DC Engagement Photos

There is something particularly special about the changing of the seasons. It is a chance to reflect on the joys of what has just passed while eagerly anticipating all that is to come. In many ways, the same is true of the seasons of our lives. One of my favorite parts of being a photographer is documenting couples during these meaningful transitions as they prepare for marriage and begin a new chapter together.

Petter and Francesca’s iconic Washington DC engagement photos took place on a quiet late-summer morning just before autumn arrived. With the Jefferson Memorial as their starting backdrop, their session beautifully reflected both the timeless character of Washington, DC and the anticipation of the season ahead.

Bright Morning Start at the Jefferson Memorial

We started the session at one of my favorite locations in Washington, DC: the Jefferson Memorial. The timeless architecture, bright white marble, and peaceful setting along the Tidal Basin create an elegant backdrop that feels distinctly Washington. On this particular September morning, clear blue skies and beautiful light made it an especially memorable place to begin.

Starting the session at such an iconic Washington, DC landmark felt especially meaningful for Petter and Francesca. Washington is where they met, fell in love, became engaged, and now call home. There could not have been a more fitting place to celebrate the beginning of this next chapter together.

The Tudor Place in Historic Georgetown

For the remainder of the session, we made our way to the gardens of Tudor Place in Georgetown. While the Jefferson Memorial offered a grand, architectural backdrop, Tudor Place felt quieter and more intimate. Nestled in the heart of Georgetown, its historic gardens create a peaceful setting that feels tucked away from the city.

The warm tones of the historic home, lush gardens, and early September blooms added another layer of timeless beauty to the morning. It was made even sweeter by one of Francesca’s favorite flowers – hydrangeas – which were in full bloom throughout the gardens!

Petter and Francesca were an absolute delight to photograph. Their calm, sweet connection made every portrait feel natural and effortless. It was a privilege to document this season of anticipation as they prepare for the beginning of their marriage. I am already looking forward to seeing them again this fall to capture their Washington, DC wedding!
