Joseph and Rachel’s surprise proposal and engagement session was a dream as a Georgetown DC Proposal Photographer. Their session felt like something you read about and see in movies. The raw and joyful element of surprise, their elated and palpable joy, the feeling of being completely head-over-heels in love – it was all there.

Add in Georgetown’s waterfront, historic alleys, and cobblestone streets, and the afternoon became the summer love setting of our dreams – romantic, joyful, and full of life.

A Surprise Proposal at the Georgetown Waterfront

Every detail had been considered. After the proposal, Joseph had arranged for Rachel to change into a dress and shoes he had thoughtfully brought along – an outfit approved by her friends, chosen entirely with her in mind!

We spent about an hour photographing together, beginning along the Georgetown Waterfront before wandering into the cobblestone streets. We were working with midday sun – bright, direct, and alive. Rather than fighting it, we leaned into it, letting the movement and energy of the moment guide the session.

A Cinematic Summer Engagement Session in Georgetown DC

Between their head-over-heels romance and the kinetic energy of summer, the session felt young, joyful, and deeply in love – like something pulled from a romantic film. There was so much movement – dancing, running, spinning, laughter – yet none of it forced or overly directed.

One of my favorite photographs from the gallery is a blurred, dragged frame of Joseph dipping Rachel. It captures the feeling of the session perfectly: romantic, cinematic, and filled with a sense of nostalgic whimsy.

Their gallery is warm and candid, with moments that feel both sweet and full of life.

This Surprise Proposal Will Stay With Me

This proposal and engagement session will live in my photographic heart for a long time. Nothing was forced or overdone – everything was raw, genuine, and bursting at the seams with love and joy. I wasn’t directing poses so much as capturing the moments naturally unfolding between them.
