Sometimes the most unexpected connections lead to the sweetest stories. Maya first learned about me in the most unique way—through a special PNP Kids episode I participated in with one of my dearest friends, Kh. Destinie all about the Orthodox Christian tradition of baking Phanouropita for the feast of Saint Phanourios (you can read more about that fun experience here). After seeing the episode and discovering I’m a wedding photographer in her area, she reached out, and from our very first phone consultation, I knew this was going to be such a special journey!
Fast forward to this past weekend, when I finally got to meet Maya and her fiancé, Fadi, in person for their Capitol Hill engagement session. Maya traveled from NYC, Fadi from the Baltimore area, and together, we braved a chilly January morning with residual snow covered grounds. After a visit to the stunning Library of Congress and some unexpected changes to our café plans (as all good adventures go!), we ended up capturing gorgeous outdoor portraits featuring the iconic U.S. Capitol as the perfect backdrop.
These two are as kind and genuine in person as they’ve been over emails and phone calls, and I’m even more excited for their wedding day! Scroll down to see their stunning winter engagement session and to read Maya’s take on how they met and got engaged.
How They Met
from her perspective
We met online, and last year, Fadi flew to Toronto to meet me in person. We spent an amazing day and a half together, exploring downtown Toronto and visiting Niagara Falls the following day.
How He Proposed
from her perspective
While hiking in upstate New York, my sister and I decided to make a day of it since she was visiting for the weekend. She snapped so many pictures of us along the way that, by the time Fadi dropped to one knee at a scenic lookout, I was completely caught off guard. Afterward, we celebrated at the most charming vineyard with live music and a cozy lunch—it was absolutely perfect!
